Mediation
Mediation is a confidential process that gives the participants complete control over the outcome.
A neutral third party mediator manages the process and encourages participants to seek understanding of the issues and underlying interests of the other party, so that they can consider their alternatives and generate their own options to ultimately resolve the issues they are facing.
If an issue arises between a resident and the operator, SLM can help relieve tensions and facilitate effective solutions.
Successful mediation can not only enhance the operator to stabilise ongoing issues, but can improve the future relationship, easing tension, misunderstandings and frustration which is a much better outcome for the parties and the community as a whole.
Mediation is more cost effective and less time consuming than formal proceedings, with mediations being arranged as soon as all parties are available. Dealing with disputes quickly and effectively can resolve disputes preventing litigation in many cases and helps to restore harmony in the community.
Anything that is discussed in a mediation cannot be used in any future legal proceedings. This is to encourage open and honest discussion, without fear of it being used against either party should the matter not be resolved during mediation. The only exception to this is where the law requires certain information to be disclosed.
Variations of this service are available, including providing more than one mediator, or working with a mediator appointed by one party to the dispute.
